A key driver for the development of the Australian and New Zealand synthesis on Ocean Acidification science (now published as the OA marine report card) was to identify what policy might be needed to enable adaptation to and mitigation of changes to the marine environment caused by declining pH. As a group, the authors were able to start identifying these policy issues and also the knowledge gaps that science needs to address to enable comprehensive policy development. There are now quite a few environmental policy researchers in Australia starting to work on OA policy issues.
